Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Vetoed the Amended City Land Use Plan (CLUP) by City Council
Davao City Mayor and Presidential Candidate Rodrigo Duterte, despite his busy campaign schedule, still manage to do his job as the city mayor, this time by vetoing the controversial amended City Land Use Plan (CLUP), removing 10% green space provision for subdivision development projects in the city. This amended has met with protests and oppositions from various sectors, including the environmental group and civil society groups in Davao City. However, the protests has not stop the city council from approving the amendment, until Mayor Rody Duterte vetoed it.
According to Duterte in an interview last Sunday in Cagayan De Oro by members of Green Davao Coalition:
“There is a legal block there because the city legal said it is ultra vires, beyond the power of the City Council, to amend certain provisions of a national law. I follow the opinion of the legal officer which says that I should veto, I’d veto it because the city legal officer says it’s illegal,”
