Gov. Generoso Bridge Rehabilitation Project Causes Heavy Traffic

Commuters and motorists, especially those who are coming from southern part of Davao City, as well as those going south bound are advised to avoid Gov. Generoso Bridge, known well in Davao as the Bankerohan Bridge. This is because bridge rehabilitation is still on-going on the north bound portion of the bridge. Vehicles coming from south and going south are both using the south portion of the bridge, causing heavy traffic, especially during rush hours in the morning and in the evening.

The said bridge rehabilitation started last April 21, 2014, and will lasts for about five to six month. The reason for rehabilitation is to strengthen the bridge's foundation for it has already weakened over the years due to constant battering from flood debris, and also by the bridge's long use (the bridge has been used by Dabawenyos for more than 2 decades). With this, commuters going to downtown Davao are advised to adjust their travel time (at least 30 mins to 1 hour early) to avoid getting late in going to school and work. Private vehicles are advised to use alternate routes such as C.P. Garcia highway (Diversion Road), Sandawa Road and Quimpo Blvd. to avoid heavy traffic during rush hours.
