It seems that the rotational brownout experienced in Davao City and other parts of Mindanao will continue until summer as Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) once again announced the latest power interruption schedule. For the past weeks the schedule was only for a week, this time is totally different - a one-month power interruption schedule. This only means that no permanent solutions were made to solve this problem.

For the complete schedule, refer to the picture below:

According to DLPC's announcement in their Facebook Page:

The rotating power interruptions will still be implemented as the major hydro power plants in Mindanao continues to decrease due to the impact of the El Nino Phenomenon.

The situation is projected to worsen as we enter the summer months starting April 2016.

As a rule of thumb, a 20 MW deficit within our franchise is equivalent to 30 mins. to 1 hour of rotating power interruptions. Yesterday (March 12), our deficit is at an average of 35 MW (Mindanao-grid deficit is still at 80 MW). Hence, we are implementing a 1 to 1.5 hours of rotating power interruptions.

New generating plants, which we have contracted additional power supply, are said to operate in May and August 2016.

Thus, between now and May, outages will still be experienced.
With this, we are encouraging everyone to be prudent in your use of electricity at home or at the workplace.

Rest assured that we will do our best to mitigate the impact of these rotating power interruptions.
